Microemulsions: Unique Properties, Pharmacological Applications, and Targeted Drug Delivery

نویسندگان

چکیده

Microemulsions, comprising oil, water and a surfactant, in association with some co-surfactant, are thermodynamically stable systems. They have found applications large number of chemical pharmacological processes due to their unique properties such as interfacial area, low tension, most importantly, the ability solubilize deliver hydrophobic drugs. In addition oral intravenous route, they suitable for drug delivery through ophthalmic, vaginal, pulmonary, dental, topical routes. This review highlights several recent developments use microemulsions medical treatment purposes including targeted delivery.

Targeted drug delivery to bone: pharmacokinetic and pharmacological properties of acidic oligopeptide-tagged drugs.

Site-specific drug delivery to bone is considered to be achievable by utilizing acidic amino acid homopeptides. We found that fluorescence-labeled acidic amino acid (L-Asp or L-Glu) homopeptides containing six or more residues bound strongly to hydroxyapatite, which is a major component of bone, and were selectively delivered to and retained in bone after systemic administration. We explored th...

Modification of Polyvinyl Alcohol via Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization for Targeted Drug Delivery Applications

In current study,a hydrogel based on biocompatible polymerwas prepared. The functionalization of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)with epichlorohydrin(ECH) to produce epichlorohydrin-g-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA/ECH) as a suitable macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) reaction was investigated.ThenN-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) waspolymerized on the surface of macroinitiatorin presence of...

Microemulsions as Antidiabetic Drug Delivery Systems

Glibenclamide is practically insoluble in water and its gastrointestinal absorption is limited by its dissolution rate. Therefore, to enhance the drug dissolution and its hypoglycemic effects, the drug was formulated in different microemulsion systems and in vitro/in vivo evaluated. Microemulsion systems were prepared by Water titration method in which surfactants and cosurfactants (S/CoS) were...
